Page Title: Who we are

Church Stretton Good Neighbours was formed in 1968 on the initiative of the local churches and became a registered charity in 1985. Since then, whilst our structure and objectives have evolved to meet the changing needs of the community, we have continued to retain widespread recognition and support throughout the local area. Marking our 50th anniversary in 2018, we were delighted and proud to receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

We have a team of around 130 volunteers who are variously involved in coordinating our activities, taking people to medical appointments throughout the West Midlands, delivering hot lunches through a ‘meals-on-wheels’ service, and organising three lunch clubs. We are always keen to recruit new volunteers to Good Neighbours to help maintain the service we provide for the community.

A committee of elected trustees oversees and develops the Good Neighbours scheme. The committee comprises:

  • David Andrew  – Treasurer
  • Lin Brown  – Trustee
  • Jennie Cooper – Trustee
  • Doreen Cornwell  – Volunteers Coordinator
  • Paddy Hall  – Mayfair Meals Coordinator
  • Peter Hall  – Trustee
  • Catherine Macartney  – Secretary
  • Andrew Middleton  – Chairman
Our activities benefit people living within approximately a six-mile radius of Church Stretton: an area covering some 350 sq. km.
